Tradition to Transformation
HerWILL at the FOBANA Youth Forum
If You Could Solve One Problem…
“If you could solve one problem in your community, what would it be?” - the central question that shaped our community impact workshop at the FOBANA Youth Forum in Atlanta, Georgia. The responses showed how much thought our attendees had put into the social, educational and leadership related issues they care about. One by one, participants shared problems they see around them, while others added on by relating to those experiences or sharing how they had worked through similar challenges. It felt like a conversation people had been waiting to have, and there was a sense of relief in naming struggles out loud and realizing they were shared.
A Space for Honest Conversations
This was the very purpose of our workshop; to create a space where people could speak honestly about the challenges they see in their communities and come together to discuss possible solutions. A Community Impact Workshop is about conversation, reflection, and connection. It gives participants the chance to share experiences and learn from one another in a way that feels real and personal. That’s exactly what we intended to do!

Stories That Spark Solutions
One of the most powerful moments came when someone spoke about immigrant mothers who do not always have the resources they need to establish themselves in America. Too often women are dependent on their husbands, and even learning basic computer skills or applying for a job are not accessible. For many, it is not even clear where to begin. The discussion opened into a bigger reflection on how a community can step in to create resources and support that make these transitions smoother.
A Room Full of Shared Voices
That example captured the spirit of the workshop. It was not about answers coming from one place but about creating the conditions for people to listen, relate, and respond to one another. The room felt thoughtful and connected, and the dialogue showed how much people are ready to imagine and build solutions together.

From Conversation to Action
For HerWILL, this was more than just a single session. Many of the young people and professionals who joined us said they wanted to stay involved, volunteer, and help us expand this work in Atlanta and beyond

That enthusiasm is what we hoped for. Our mission has always been to create spaces where women and youth can see themselves as leaders, innovators, and change makers. This workshop reminded us that the interest and energy for that kind of work is already here and only needs the right platform.

Thank You to FOBANA
We are grateful to the FOBANA team for including us in their youth forum and for giving us the opportunity to bring this conversation forward. It was a reminder that when we gather with honesty and openness, we discover common ground and begin to imagine what is possible for our communities.
