Cultivating Community and Career Development through Mentorships in STEM
HerWILL offers a range of programs designed to support women and youth from marginalized backgrounds in Data Science and AI.
Our focus is on empowering those early in their professional career to succeed in their first internships and jobs, but also supporting established career women to become leaders in their fields.
Importance Of Mentorships
The corporate environment can be difficult to navigate for women and marginalized groups in the STEM field and unconscious biases or lack of representation can potentially hinder career advancement.
Having mentors who are women themselves or who have faced similar challenges in their careers can provide a powerful sense of representation and serve as role models.
Mentors for women provide crucial guidance, sharing insights to navigate cultural challenges, microaggressions, and implicit biases in the workplace.
Through offering guidance and support, mentors aid women in overcoming obstacles, navigating career paths, and breaking through barriers such as the glass ceiling.
The importance of mentorship cannot be overstated, with numerous accomplished women in STEM highlighting mentor guidance as pivotal to their achievements.
According to UNESCO:
35% of STEM students globally are women, 28% PhD students are women, 24% of the global STEM workforce are women
Mentorships At HerWILL
We aim to elevate the women and youth who thrive in our programs and align them with mentors to help them progress in their educational or professional aspirations. Many of our HerWILL teammates initially started as either an intern or mentee with our organization and with ongoing mentorship have been able to get into their dream university or break into the tech field.
